Coronary extension
Coronary lengthening
Coronary lengthening is a solution for periodontal, restorative and aesthetic problems. Sometimes it becomes essential when saving a piece.
It consists in increasing the size of the clinical crown by removing the periodontal tissues and thus exposing the healthy dental tissue for a subsequent success to the treatment that will be applied.
Indications for coronary lengthening:
- Persistent gum enlargement.
- Subgingival caries
- Fracture, reabsorption or perforation of the tooth’s neck at the root level.
- Little crown support for treatments.
- Curve of the tall smile.
Before performing a coronary lengthening, it is necessary to assess the importance of this tooth in the general context of the treatment plan and the individual prognosis of the tooth to be treated and the impact that it would entail the loss of the tooth within a few years after the restoration was completed.
